THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SAN QUINTIN (J Gates) jumped slow, losing two lengths. b) ELECTRIC STORM (D Schwarz), HOME REEF (C Little) and GARDENER'S PRIDE (C Maujean) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey D Schwarz was examined by the course Medical Officer and passed fit to continue riding. b) RASTIGNAC (K Matsunyane) was hanging inwards badly and made contact with HEART STEALER (R Fourie) and turned his hindquarters slightly at approximately the 500m. Thereafter, RASTIGNAC (K Matsunyane) continued to hang inwards and made contact with HOME REEF (C Little) at approximately the 150m. c) MILLENNIUM DANCER (M Yeni) and HEAD GARDENER (C Zackey), which raced in close proximity from approximately the 100m, came together and brushed shortly before the finish. d) Jockeys D Schwarz and C Zackey reported that ELECTRIC STORM and HEAD GARDENER respectively did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. Trainer DA McKenzie and Assistant Trainer DG Smith were advised to report back should they find anything amiss with these geldings on their return to the stables. e) HOME STEALER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Mtengwana, acting on behalf of Trainer AC Greeff, was advised. (LM) f) GARDENER'S PRIDE, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
