En route to the start EL CAPITAN dislodged Jockey S Veale. This gelding was taken in hand, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and subsequently withdrawn. Jockey S Veale was attended to by the course paramedics. This caused a delay to the start of this race. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FIRE FORCE (S Moodley) lost 3 lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) In the concluding stages MONT TREMBLANT (*S Bungane) was switched to the inside of THE WOLF (T Godden) to continue its run. b) Jockey C Zackey (FREDDY SLATER) did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages, and thereafter Jockey Zackey reported that he felt something amiss in the running with FREDDY SLATER. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) In view of the performance of SAMUEL LONGSWORD (A Mgudlwa) (21.70 lengths, 33/1 in the betting), which trailed the field throughout, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Jockey C Maujean reported that CITY LIGHTS was fatigued and made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) Jockey K Matsunyane reported that CALL ME HARRIET took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Apprentice S Bungane (MONT TREMBLANT) completed a satisfactory qualifying ride. g) THE WOLF (T Godden), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
