BAKWENA (D DE GOUVEIA) PROVED RELUCTANT PROCEEDING TO THE START AND HAD TO BE LED BY A HANDLER. THIS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MISS LIA (P Mxoli) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. b) VJ'S ANGEL (G Lerena), QUID PRO QUO (P Strydom), WORLD OF ALICE (C Zackey), and TOO LATE MY MATE (K A Brewer) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BAKWENA (D De Gouveia) proved reluctant to canter to the start. Trainer J J van Vuuren was advised that should this filly behave in a similar manner in future, she may be suspended. b) At approximately the 150m, QUID PRO QUO (P Strydom) was carried out marginally by SPUMANTE DOLCE (R Danielson), which rolled out. c) The saddle on SONIC JET (K Matsunyane) slipped back in running. This was confirmed by the video patrol footage. d) Jockey P Strydom was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Appendix E read with Guideline 3 on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking QUID PRO QUO forward of the saddle in the concluding stages. Jockey P Strydom signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R 1000. e) SPUMANTE DOLCE (R Danielson), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M de Kock advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) BAKWENA was ridden by Jockey D De Gouveia (declared 1 February 2025 at 08H17). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MISS LIA scalp wound left hind. SCRATCHED: a) OLIVIA'S WAY virus (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
