THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) HANG OUT THE STARS (C Bantam) was restless in the stalls and jumped awkwardly, losing two lengths.
b) GOLDEN ANGEL (A Arries) and DEVIL A SAINT (M Winnaar) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) At the 350m Jockey G van Niekerk (FAMILY POWER) hesitated with his riding in anticipation that the available run between PARATROOPER (S Veale) and COMMANDING (C Little) would close. Thereafter, Jockey G van Niekerk was unable to ride FAMILY POWER to the finish when close to the heels of PARATROOPER (S Veale).
b) Shortly before the finish NOON DAY GUN (M Mjoka) was bumped heavily by GOLDEN ANGEL (A Arries), which shifted in sharply for no apparent reason. As a consequence, Jockey A Arries was obliged to stop riding, straighten his mount and was unable to ride GOLDEN ANGEL to the finish.
c) Jockey A Domeyer reported that he felt something amiss with WHAT A FORTUNE, which raced wide without cover on the turn and into the straight. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that, in his opinion, the performance of SWIATEK was disappointing. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
e) When questioned regarding the improved performance of DIAMOND ROCK (J Solomons), compared to his previous run on 14 December 2024, Trainer D McLachlan told the Stewards that this was DIAMOND ROCK's first run for his stable and was over 1200m which, in his opinion, was too short for this gelding. Trainer D McLachlan's explanation was noted. The Stewards will monitor DIAMOND ROCK's future performances.
f) DIAMOND ROCK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D McLachlan was advised. (TL)
