BEACH PALACE (M Yeni) cast his left front shoe on parade, the Farrier after numerous attempts was unable to re-fit the shoe. After consultation with Trainer P V Lafferty permission was granted for the right front shoe to be removed and for BEACH PALACE (M Yeni) to race unshod in front. This resulted in the running of Race 6 being delayed. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ATTABOY (J Botes) was slow to stride and lost 2 lengths. b) FIRECRACKER (S Veale) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) In view of the performance of PONGOLA (R A Venniker) (18.70 lengths and 8/1 in the betting) and this gelding giving ground to the field from the 200m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) In view of the performance of CONNOISSEUR (K Matsunyane) (4.30 lengths and 7/2 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Apprentice B Marx-Jacobson (BASIE RAAKVAT) completed a satisfactory qualifying ride. d) IDEAL GIFT (S Moodley), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
