THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MHLABENI (MK Katjedi) kicked the back gates of the starting stalls. b) GIMME'S LADDIE (C Zackey) jumped slow, losing three lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Steady rain fell during the running of this race. b) In view of the performance of KARANGETANG (R Fourie), which was not persevered with from the 200m, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey D Schwarz reported that he felt something amiss with ROMANCE IN ROME. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer JVA Strydom was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding GIMME'S LADDIE (C Zackey), Assistant Trainer F Jacobs will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled prior to his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. e) Trainer GD Smith was charged with a contravention of Rule 8.3.1 in that he failed to have available the registered colours of the owner/s of THE WINTER LAKE. Assistant Trainer F Jacobs, acting on behalf of Trainer GD Smith, signed an Admission of Guilt and Trainer GD Smith was fined R750,00. f) FIRST ORIGIN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
