THE STARTER REPORTED: a) KIA KAHA (G Lerena) and PHANTOM EXPRESS (C Zackey) were restless in the stalls. b) VIRGINIA BEACH (D De Gouveia) and WHIRLYBIRD (K Matsunyane) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) MICKE'S BOMB (*K J Lihaba) and FLIGHT OF A CONDOR (M K Katjedi) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. d) GLOBAL THUNDER (L Nhlapo) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) A race review was called into the start of this race with regards to GLOBAL THUNDER (L Nhlapo) in stall gate 9. The Stewards established that the left-hand-side front gate had bounced back, making contact with GLOBAL THUNDER'S (L Nhlapo) head, which resulted in this filly being slow away. The Board, acting in terms of Rule 61.5.10.1, declared her to be a non-runner. b) Jockey G Lerena reported that KIA KAHA made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) Jockey D De Gouveia reported that VIRGINIA BEACH did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey R Munger was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he, as the rider of THE NAVY LARK, misused his crop by striking this filly more than twelve times (13) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey R Munger signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R2000 was imposed. e) Jockey R Munger was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Appendix E read with Guideline 3 on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking THE NAVY LARK forward of the saddle in the concluding stages. Jockey R Munger signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000. f) THE NAVY LARK (R Munger), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J A Visser advised (MduP).
