THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DREAM SCAPE (Y Ramzan) was stubborn loading. b) STRING OF LIGHTS (L Mxothwa) was nervous in the stalls. c) MS PATTY (C Zackey) jumped slow, losing one length. d) THING CALLED LOVE (K Minnie) and KOMESANS PASSION (*H Moosun) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FROSTY RECEPTION (MK Katjedi) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led, riderless, by a Handler. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised that should this filly behave in a similar manner in future engagements, she may be suspended. b) Apprentice H Moosun (KOMESANS PASSION) rode a satisfying qualifying ride. c) The saddle on PERFECT TRUST slipped forward in running, which resulted in Jockey DB Geerthsen being unable to ride this mare to the finish. This was confirmed on the video footage. d) ASPOESTERTJIE (C Habib) was carried inwards by FROSTY RECEPTION (MK Katjedi), which shifted inwards at approximately the 400m. Thereafter, ASPOESTERTJIE (C Habib) was unable to secure clear running from the 300m to the finish. e) Jockey MK Katjedi (FROSTY RECEPTION) dropped his crop at approximately the 200m. f) In view of the performance of ORIGINAL COPY (R Fourie) (Betting 18/10; Distance 8.55 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Trainer AC Greeff was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this filly on her return to the stables. When questioned regarding his ride on ORIGINAL COPY, Jockey R Fourie explained to the Board that this filly, after her Maiden win, had jumped too well out of the gates, raced prominently and used herself up early in the race. Despite his urgings, ORIGINAL COPY had compounded badly from approximately the 500m. Jockey R Fourie further stated that, in his opinion, a race over 1000m would better suit this filly as she is still immature. Jockey R Fourie's explanation was noted. g) MS PATTY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer DG Smith, acting on behalf of Trainer GD Smith, was advised. (LM) h) SMASHING, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
