NEW TURF CARRIERS/NARROW CREEK STUD MAIDEN JUVENILE PLATE (Fillies) (For 2 yof R100 000 Win BSA / CRS Bonus)

THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LILIC HEART (E Webber) was stubborn loading, jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride. b) KOLA NUT (*I Taka) jumped awkwardly. c) SECRET CHOICE (R Munger) was nervous in the stalls. d) IVY (C Maujean) and ROYAL CITY GIRL (C Habib) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All Riders in this race were weighed out manually as there was a technical issue with the scale. This was brought to the attention of the Racing Operator. b) The Stewards reviewed the start with regards to KOLA NUT (*I Taka) in stall gate 1 and established that this filly had not been impeded in any way, had jumped awkwardly sideways towards the inside running rail and dislodged Apprentice I Taka. This precluded Apprentice I Taka from being able to weigh in. In terms of Rule 66.2 the Stewards were satisfied that KOLA NUT had carried the correct weight. c) Shortly after the start, LILIC HEART (E Webber), which jumped awkwardly inwards, made slight contact with SECRET CHOICE (R Munger), which in turn carried ROYAL CITY GIRL (C Habib) slightly inwards. d) SECONDS OUT (Y Ramzan) was hanging in from the 400m and was corrected. e) SILVAN MISTRESS (R Fourie) shifted inwards away from the crop at the 300m and made slight contact with ROYAL CITY GIRL (C Habib), which raced green, at approximately the 250m. f) BAROLO (S Naidoo), which raced green, took a number of awkward strides from the 300m, shifted both ways away from the crop and changed stride continually in running from the 150m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. g) FARAWAY GIRL (L Mxothwa) raced green. h) Jockey C Little reported that the saddle on GOLDEN CROC slipped backwards in running. This was confirmed by the Stipendiary Stewards on the patrol film. i) Trainer K Mitchley was questioned regarding the improved performance of AIR BORN LADY (S Khathi) compared to her first run on 24 January 2025. Trainer K Mitchley explained to the Board that after this filly's first run, she was found to have a virus. The filly was given time to recover and that accounted for the improved run. Trainer K Mitchley's explanation was noted. j) In view of the report from the Starter regarding KOLA NUT (*I Taka), this filly's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as she proves to be tractable to jump on terms with a companion. (Suspension dates: 22/03/2025 to 28/03/2025 inclusive) KOLA NUT may not be presented for re-passing during this period. k) Jockey S Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of AIR BORN LADY he misused his crop by striking AIR BORN LADY more than 12 times (13) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey S Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was fined R3000,00. l) AIR BORN LADY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised.
