THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) GARDEN SUN (C Little), MASTER WIZARD (*H Moosun), WAR LOVER (MK Katjedi) and PYRO PRINCE (Y Ramzan) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) MASTER WIZARD (*H Moosun), WAR LOVER (MK Katjedi) and MAFIABAGSTHEMONEY (C Maujean) over raced in the early and middle stages.
b) GOLDEN GREY (R Fourie), which was drawn on the outside, raced wide without cover on the first turn and into the back straight in order to obtain a handy position ahead of the field.
c) ALWAYS SHINING (L Mxothwa) was hanging in from the 300m.
d) MASTER WIZARD (*H Moosun) shifted out for no apparent reason at approximately the 300m.
Apprentice H Moosun appeared before the Board and was advised that he is to keep on a straight course when there are no apparent circumstances which compel him to switch his mount out in running. The Board was satisfied that, except for the above-mentioned reprimand, this was a satisfactory qualifying ride.
e) Jockey C Zackey reported that he felt something amiss with KINGSBOY and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Assistant Trainer FJ Jacobs was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables.
f) Apprentice I Taka was charged with a contravention of Rule 66.4 (read with Guideline 1 on overweight) in that he, as the rider of AWAY WITH RED, weighed back in at 54.6kgs, 1.1kg in excess of the weight at which he was declared out (53.5kgs). Apprentice I Taka signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1 000.00.
g) ALWAYS SHINING, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L Gila was advised. (LM)
h) GOLDEN GREY, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised. (LM)
