THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BLACKBERRY MALT (C F Dicken) and TROIS TROIS QUATRE (S Veale) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) JOHNNY THE THIEF was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen analysed at 12h40 revealed a level of over 36 TCO2. mmol/L. In terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen was collected. Trainer M J Odendaal was informed that the second blood specimen, analysed at 12h50 had revealed a level of over the threshold of 38 mmol/L. Consequently JOHNNY THE THIEF was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 13h12, 5/2 in the betting). b) AFRICAN DUSK (S Moodley) over-raced in the early and middle stages and thereafter hung in from the 300m. c) Jockey C Zackey reported that FIELD MARSHAL did not stride out freely in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) TROIS TROIS QUATRE (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Mathew De Kock was advised (DZ).
