The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race and due to HOT LAVA (S Khumalo) being subject to a late Veterinary examination at the start and was subsequently scratched. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DRIVE BY (D Schwarz) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) CHICAGO LASS (*N Nastili) over-raced in the early stages when equipped with blinkers for the first time. b) At the 700m POURSOMESUGARONME (S Moodley) was brushed out by DRIVE BY (D Schwarz) which commenced to over-race. c) At the 250m DRIVE BY (D Schwarz) was inconvenienced when awkwardly placed between the heels of HEAD GIRL (C Habib) which commenced to give ground to the field and HEIRLOOM (C Little). Thereafter DRIVE BY (D Schwarz) was switched in to continue its run. d) Jockey C Little reported that HEIRLOOM made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) Jockey S Veale reported that MY SIRAYA did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) In view of the performance of HEAD GIRL (C Habib) (10.85 lengths, 20/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. g) QUENTASIA (*M Mbuto), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
