THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) LORD QUINN reared as the start was effected and dislodged Apprentice I Taka.
b) HEEMSTEDE (R Fourie) and HENRY'S HEDGE (C Little) were nervous in the stalls.
c) PARDON ME (Y Ramzan) jumped awkwardly.
d) DONNY'S BOY (S Khathi), WAR LOVER (E Webber) and HAT MONTERA (C Habib) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Jockey C Zackey was examined by the course Medical Officer and declared fit to ride.
b) LORD QUINN (*I Taka) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led by a Handler. Trainer K Mitchley was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future engagements, it may be suspended.
c) The Stewards reviewed the start with regards to LORD QUINN (*I Taka) in stall gate 8. It was established that this horse had failed to jump on terms, reared as the start was effected, dislodged Apprentice I Taka and thereafter raced riderless. The Board was satisfied that this was as a result of LORD QUINN'S own behaviour and took no further action.
In view of the report from the starter regarding LORD QUINN (*I Taka), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to jump on terms with a companion. Suspension dates: 17/05/2025 to 23/05/2025 inclusive). LORD QUINN may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
d) In view of the performance of WAR LOVER (E Webber), which was not ridden to the finish line, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Trainer L Gila was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables.
e) In view of the performance of PYRO PRINCE (L Mxothwa), which was not ridden to the finish line, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Assistant Trainer DG Smith appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding this gelding's performance today, including his previous performances. He advised that this was this gelding's last run as he intends to retire PYRO PRINCE. His explanation was noted.
f) HEEMSTEDE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised. (LM)
