THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO GREENLIGHT RACER (J MARIBA) PROVING RELUCTANT TO PROCEED TO THE START AND HAVING TO BE LED BY A HANDLER. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WORLD ORDER (*G Samo-Burthia) was restless in the stalls. b) FIRST ARROW (L Nhlapo), GRAND LEGACY (M K Katjedi), STAY TUNED (K Matsunyane), RADIO STAR (G Lerena) and TAKE NO PRISONERS (C Murray) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) GREENLIGHT RACER (J Mariba) proved reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led by a Handler. Trainer J A Soma was advised that should this colt behave in a similar manner in future, it may be suspended. b) CANFORD CLUB (L Mxothwa) over-raced in the early stages. c) Jockey L Nhlapo, the rider of FIRST ARROW, accidentally dropped his crop at the 400m. d) GRAND LEGACY (M K Katjedi) commenced to give ground to the field from the 300m. In view of this performance, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) In the concluding stages, TWO FOR THE BOYS (*K J Lihaba) was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed between CRONUS (C Habib) and SCARLETT HEART (S Moodley). f) Jockey J Gates reported that he felt something amiss with JABBERWOCKY in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. g) Trainer A Azzie was charged with a contravention of Rule 39.7.5 in that he failed to vaccinate RADIO STAR against Equine Influenza in accordance with the programme of vaccinations as published from time to time in the Racing Calendar. Trainer A Azzie signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000. h) TAKE NO PRISONERS (C Murray), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
