The start of this race was delayed as it was established that the saddles of the riders of DAPPER (K Matsunyane) and GOLDEN RULE (P Mxoli) were swapped and fitted to the incorrect horses. This resulted in Jockeys K Matsunyane and P Mxoli having to be re-weighed. Thereafter, en-route to the start GOLDEN RULE (P Mxoli) cast the right front shoe. This gelding was attended to by the course farrier, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. This caused a further delay to the start of this race. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VIVA SPIRIT (G Lerena), REAL WAR (C Habib), SERPENTINE FIRE (C Murray)) lost 1 length. b) GRAND APPEAL (N Patel) was restless in the stalls. Lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 900m GRAND APPEAL (N Patel) was directed outwards off the heels of SERPENTINE FIRE (C Murray) which rolled out. b) In the concluding stages VIVA SPIRIT (G Lerena) was eased off the heels of WISSA'S ON FIRE (D Schwarz). c) Jockey C F Dicken reported that he felt something amiss with MENT TO FLY. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) In view of the performances of VIVA SPIRIT (G Lerena) (3.05 lengths, 20/1 in the betting) and HONOR OF KINGS (1.40 lengths, 2/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning MENT TO FLY (C F Dicken), and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. (Suspension dates : 25.05.2025 - 23.07.2025 bdi). Trainer M Dixon was advised. f) An Inquiry will be opened to establish why DAPPER (K Matsunayne) and GOLDEN RULE (K Naidoo) were incorrectly saddled. g) TURBO POWER (S Moodley), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry was advised (NS). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) TURBO POWER raced equipped with blinkers (advised 23.05.2025/09h57). b) Jockey C Habib was the rider of WISSA'S ON FIRE (advised 24.05.2025/13h15). c) Jockey C Habib was the rider of REAL WAR (advised 24.05.2025/13h15).
