THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HAPPY VERSE (A Fortune) and ETOILEFILLANTE (J Solomons) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ETOILEFILLANTE (J Solomons), which was slow into stride, failed to muster speed in the early stages and raced detached from the field until the 600m. b) PETTEIA (*B Plaatjies) had to steady momentarily when awkwardly placed on the inside of HAPPY VERSE (A Fortune) at approximately the 800m. c) PETTEIA (*B Plaatjies) shifted outwards away from the crop without any assistance from Apprentice B Plaatjies from the 400m. Apprentice B Plaatjies appeared before the Board and was advised to change his crop hand timeously in order to assist his mount in keeping on a straight course in future engagements. d) At the 400m NILE THE BOSS (*S Bungane) was steadied and directed outwards when close to the heels of FLY TO RIO (M Yeni). Thereafter, NILE THE BOSS (*S Bungane) commenced to hang outwards. e) Jockey K Steyn reported that VERONIQUE made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. f) In view of the performance of HANG OUT THE STARS (R Fourie), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. g) HAPPY VERSE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
