THE STARTER HAD NO REPORTS. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) EUPHRATES was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2 testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 36 TCO2 mmol/L. Trainer A P Peter was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Stable Employee M Peter, acting on behalf of Trainer A P Peter, was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the threshold of 38 mmol/L and that consequently EUPHRATES was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18 (Withdrawn at 11H31, 33/1 in the betting). EUPHRATES was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee M Peter, acting on behalf of Trainer A P Peter was advised (Mr L Anderson). b) After racing prominently throughout, RED SEA HILLS (+I Lukhele) raced wide around the and turn into straight, and tired badly from the 600m. Thereafter, Work Rider I Lukhele reported that this gelding changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) At approximately the 700m, ALAKANANI (+T Lukhele) was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed on the inside of FLY TO ME (+N Ngqwangi), which rolled in. d) BRIGHAM (+S Mosia) shifted out away from the crop in the concluding stages. e) In view of the performance of FLY TO ME (+N Ngqwangi), (distance 29,50 lengths, betting 100/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) ART NOUVEAU (+P Mongqawa), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
