EN ROUTE TO THE START, DESERT CLOUD (S MOODLEY) PULLED ITS RIGHT FRONT SHOE, WHICH WAS ATTENDED TO BY THE COURSE FARRIER. THE COURSE FARRIER WAS UNABLE TO REPLACE THIS SHOE. AS A RESULT, IN CONSULTATION WITH TRAINER C DAWSON, HE REMOVED THE LEFT FRONT SHOE AND DESERT CLOUD RACED UNSHOD IN FRONT. THIS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DESERT CLOUD (S Moodley) was stubborn loading. b) PHYSIOLOGUS (C Habib) and GO GET UR ARMOR (*G Samo-Burthia) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) EMPRESS WU was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2 testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 36 TCO2 mmol/L. Trainer J S Roux was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer J S Roux was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the threshold of 38 mmol/L and that consequently EMPRESS WU was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18 (Withdrawn at 12H43, 16/1 in the betting). EMPRESS WU was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J S Roux was advised (Mr L Anderson). b) CONCORDIA (K Matsunyane) and HOTARU (K A Brewer) hung in in the concluding stages. c) Jockey S Moodley reported that DESERT CLOUD did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey D Schwarz reported that COOKIE DELIGHT made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) DEZIRE (*K J Lihaba), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A P Peter advised (MS).
