THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) CONTINENTALEXPRESS (J P v'd Merwe) lost 1 length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) Approaching the 200m OPEN HIGHWAY (G Lerena) was steadied and lost position when on the heels of LEXICAN POINT (C Murray) which shifted out slightly away from the crop. Jockey G Lerena, after viewing the patrol video, lodged an Objection on behalf of the fourth placed horse OPEN HIGHWAY, against the third placed horse LEXICAN POINT (C Murray) on the grounds of interference at the 200m. The Objection Board after considering what was stated during the objection proceedings was of the opinion that but for the interference, OPEN HIGHWAY (G Lerena) would not have finished ahead of LEXICAN POINT (C Murray) had this incident not occurred. When assessing the incident, the Objection Board gave consideration that the finishing margin of 0.25 lengths was flattering to OPEN HIGHWAY (G Lerena) as LEXICAN POINT (C Murray) had been bumped by MY BOY LOLLIPOP (R Fourie) in the concluding stages and consequently Jockey C Murray had not ridden his mount out to the finish. Subsequently, the Objection was over-ruled, the Judges result was allowed to stand and Jockey Lerena's deposit was refunded.
b) The Board have adjourned to review an incident which resulted in Jockey M V'Rensburg (EL DANTE) having to steady at the 1400m. Jockeys M V'Rensburg (EL DANTE) and C Murray (LEXICAN POINT) appeared before the Board and were interviewed regarding this incident. The Board have adjourned to consider the patrol films from all angles.
c) In view of the performance of INGQWELE (S Veale) (6.30 lengths, 33/10 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
d) MY BOY LOLLIPOP (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F Robinson was advised (SP).
e) TERMINATOR (S Moodley), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer B Forster acting on behalf of Trainer W A Nel was advised (DZ).
