VALLIANT KNIGHT stumbled leaving the stalls. BLEU ROYALE jumped with its head up leaving the stalls. At the 1200m, BARTHOLOMEUS had to ease when awkwardly placed on the inside of VISION TO GLORY, which rolled in. At the 1300m, LINNBARA had to ease when awkwardly placed between SEATTLE SAMBA, which rolled out and ON THE BAYOU, which rolled in, marginally. Apprentice Pieterse, the rider of VALLIANT KNIGHT, appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding an incident which occurred at the 1200m. In this regard, Apprentice Pieterse explained to the Board that, at the 1200m, VALLIANT KNIGHT commenced to over-race and became awkwardly placed when racing onto heels. Consequently, Apprentice Pieterse elected, rather than to clip heels, to ease his horse out sharply. The Board noted the explanation of Apprentice Pieterse which was corroborated by the patrol films of the race. However, Apprentice Pieterse was reminded of his obligations to report any incidents which had the potential to affect the performance of his mounts. Apprentice Ferraris, the rider of CHEROKEE CHIEF, dropped his crop shortly before the finish. At the 200m, VISION TO GLORY was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the inside of BLEU ROYALE, which hung in and was immediately straightened. Apprentice Matsunyane signed an admission of guilt for a contravention, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse WALTON HALL more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Apprentice Matsunyane, the Board considered the number of times Apprentice Matsunyane struck the horse WALTON HALL, the distance over which and manner in which, Apprentice Matsunyane used his crop, the fact that he won the race and his record in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty was imposed. Trainer Botha signed an admission of guilt for a contravention, in that he presented BARTHOLOMEUS in the parade ring incorrectly equipped for this Race. Accordingly, a penalty of a warning was imposed. WALTON HALL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. VALLIANT KNIGHT raced without a tongue tie and with a cornell collar. CHEROKEE CHIEF raced with a tongue tie. Vet: KINGS COUNSEL and ROCKET RHUMBA - post race distress. SEATTLE SAMBA - cast right fore shoe. VISION TO GLORY - cast left hind shoe.
