The start of this Race was delayed due to the horses leaving the parade ring later than normal as a consequence of a heavy downpour, prior to the running of this Race. WHAT A BLAST, DYNO MAN and FARLAND lost one length, respectively. In a tightly bunched field, MASTER OF ILLUSION was disappointed for a clear run on a number of occasions from the 200m. Shortly before the finish, ROY'S MAGIC (AUS) was brushed in by FARLAND, which had to ease and shift in when racing onto the heels of ADMIRAL'S GUEST. This resulted in Jockey Danielson being unable to assist his mount to the finish. Jockey Veale reported that THE MASTER took no interest in running. Assistant Trainer Ferrie acting on behalf of Trainer Drier was advised to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of this gelding on return to stables. Jockey Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse NEWS STREAM more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey Arries, the Board considered the number of times Jockey Arries struck the horse NEWS STREAM, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey Arries used his crop and his record in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of was imposed. PROMISE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: THE MASTER - nothing obvious detected.
