THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MIRACULOUS (L Mxothwa) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 1000m MIRACULOUS (L Mxothwa), which pulled hard in the early stages, was allowed to race around runners and into a prominent position. b) In view of the performance of FROM A DISTANCE (A Domeyer), which was not persevered with in the closing stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. Jockey A Domeyer appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his riding of FROM A DISTANCE. He told the Stewards that this filly was not competitive in the race and, in his opinion, had been disappointing. As he could not highlight why she had been unable to close the race off strongly, he could offer no explanation, except that the official going of soft may have had a bearing on her performance. However, he could not state this with any certainty. The Stewards accepted Mr Domeyer's explanation and as the filly was not persevered with in the closing stages and her performance was below that of her previous races, imposed the provisions of Rule 49.7 before this filly is declared to race again. Trainer C Bass-Robinson will be advised. c) KAMCHATKA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised.
