THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DRIVE BY (*J Botes) jumped with its head up, losing 3 lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Approaching the 700m DRIVE BY (*J Botes) was steadied off the heels of PURPLE FLOWER (*G Dookhit). b) SKY VELOCITY (*B Plaatjies) hung in from the 300m. Thereafter, Apprentice B Plaatjies reported that SKY VELOCITY took no interest in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) At the 150m PURPLE FLOWER (*G Dookhit) and BLUSH OF DAWN (*M Mbuto) came together and brushed. d) Apprentice M Mbuto was changed with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2., Appendix E, Guideline 3, in that he misused his crop by striking BLUSH OF DAWN forward of the saddle in the latter stages. Apprentice M Mbuto signed an admission of guilt and a penalty of a fine of R1000 was imposed. e) PURPLE FLOWER (*G Dookhit), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
