THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WINTER'S DRAGON (S Khathi) fly-jumped leaving the stalls, stumbled and thereafter was slow into stride. b) VINO RIOJA (*J Botes) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 400m WINTER'S DRAGON (S Khathi) had to be eased and switched outwards when awkwardly placed on the inside of BEZONDER (G Wright), which shifted inwards. In determining as to whether blame could be attributed to any Rider, the Board determined that WINTER'S DRAGON (S Khathi) had placed himself on the inside of BEZONDER (G Wright), who had already made the decision to go to the inside running rail. The Board could therefore not attribute blame to any particular Rider and took no further action. b) Jockey S Khathi (WINTER'S DRAGON) appeared before the Board and was advised that his use of the crop in the final 200m had come under notice. He was further advised that although he was within the allowed number of strikes, the manner in which he used his crop was not acceptable and should this happen in future engagements, stronger disciplinary measures would be taken. c) Jockey X Ndlovu reported that KEEP HAPPY took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) WINTER'S DRAGON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised.
