THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) During the loading process the Veterinary Surgeon observed a trace of blood in the left nostril of QUEEN REGENT (JP van der Merwe). This filly was examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race, causing a delay.
b) ROYAL STYLE (C Bantam) was restless in the stalls and slow into stride.
c) DIBBLE (D Ashby) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) After riding in race 1, Jockey G van Niekerk sought permission from the Stewards to stand down for the remainder of his rides. He expressed his concerns with the condition of the track which, in his opinion, made it unsafe for him to continue riding. The Stewards, after careful consideration, acceded to Jockey G van Niekerk's request even though in their opinion the track, whilst heavy, was still suitable for racing. The Stewards, however, accepted that each rider has the right of choice when it comes to their personal safety and wellbeing. Jockey G van Niekerk was replaced by Jockey C Bantam in this race.
b) ELUSIVE GIFT (A Arries) shifted out and made contact with QUEEN REGENT (JP van der Merwe) leaving the stalls.
c) From an outside draw, GIMME WHAT I WANT (S Veale) was steadied and taken in behind runners shortly after the start.
d) DIBBLE (D Ashby) and ELUSIVE GIFT (A Arries) raced green.
e) In view of the debut performance of DIBBLE (D Ashby), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
f) WISH LIST, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Snaith, acting on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith, was advised. (SC)
