THE STARTER REPORTED: a) REPETITION (M Yeni) was stubborn loading. b) JUAN CARLOS (C Maujean) was stubborn loading and kicked the back gates in the starting stalls. c) HEEMSTEDE (C Habib) was nervous in the stalls and jumped awkwardly outwards. d) ALADO'S PRIDE (S Naidoo) and CHERE FOR ME (X Ndlovu) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) HOME REEF recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) GEORGE HANDEL recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer Z Oosthuizen was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. c) After falling in Race 5 Jockey L Mxothwa was examined by the course Medical Doctor and passed fit to continue riding. d) HOME REEF (MK Katjedi) took an awkward stride shortly after the start. e) REPETITION (M Yeni) took a number of awkward strides between the 200m and the finish. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer TJ Laing was advised on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith to report back should she find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. f) Apprentice J Botes was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of GEORGE HANDEL he misused his crop by striking GEORGE HANDEL more than 12 times (13) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Apprentice J Botes signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2 000,00. g) HOME REEF, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised. (LM) h) BOURNEMOUTH, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
