The start of this race was delayed due to the equine assist ear muffs on JUMPTHEGREENLIGHT (S Moodley) which were incorrectly fitted, having to be removed at the start.
THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) MIDNIGHT RUBY (C F Dicken) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls, losing 2 lengths.
b) CAPRICIOUS MISS (A Mgudlwa) lost 1 length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) Shortly after the start the saddle on FANTASY LEAGUE slipped forward placing Apprentice D D Louw at a severe disadvantage and was unable to assist this filly in running. As a consequence FANTASY LEAGUE was eased out of the race at the 1100m. This resulted in AUSTRIAN BEAUTY (C Habib) and RUN FOR PEACE (*J Botes) being carried wide.
b) Shortly after the start SHINY SILVA (N Patel) was tightened for galloping room and was steadied when awkwardly placed between JUMPTHEGREENLIGHT (S Moodley) which jumped outwards and the heels of INTRO (C Murray).
c) At the 300m RUN FOR PEACE (*J Botes) was tightened and subsequently eased between the inside running rail and SEATTLE RAIN (S Sosibo) which had come to the end of its run and was carried in by JUMPTHEGREENLIGHT (S Moodley) which hung in from the 400m, shifted in sharply and was immediately corrected.
d) In view of the performance of STILL SPARKLING (*D Pillay) (17.60 lengths, 20/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
e) The Board will investigate the circumstances into the change of rider on SHINY SILVA.
f) LINE IN THE SKY (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Pandaram was advised (DZ).
