THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VOORSMAAKIE (M van Rensburg) stood awkwardly in the starting stalls. b) TAKE YOUR TIME (*J Botes) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) TAKE YOUR TIME (*J Botes) raced wide without cover on the bend and shifted out away from the crop from the 300m. b) AT MONTERA (S Khathi) was baulked for galloping room from the 450m to the 300m. c) Jockey S Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of HAT MONTERA he misused his crop by striking HAT MONTERA more than 12 times (14) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey S Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was fined R8 000,00 and suspended for seven (7) days. In assessing penalty, it has become apparent to the Board that Jockey S Khathi insists on flouting this Rule with regards to crop use. A stern warning has been issued to Jockey S Khathi that his use of the crop on his mounts has become intolerable to the Board. He was advised that should he persist with this nonchalant attitude towards the Stewards caution regarding his behaviour, stronger measures will be taken. d) LADY LUCK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised.
