THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HAROLD THE DUKE (S Khathi) and SLAINTE MHATH (G Lerena) were stubborn loading. b) ROLL OF THE DICE (M van Rensburg) was nervous in the stalls, jumped awkwardly inwards and thereafter was slow into stride. c) HAARLEM (X Ndlovu) jumped inwards, losing one length. d) CATCH THE TUNE (*J Botes) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ROLL OF THE DICE recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Assistant Trainer NJ Paddock was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) The start of this race was delayed due to the twenty-five minute interval between races. c) MR FOX (R Fourie) over raced in the early and middle stages, proved difficult to settle and thereafter, shifted both ways away from the crop from the 300m. d) SLAINTE MHATH (G Lerena) was hanging in from the 400m. e) Jockeys S Khathi and G Lerena, the Riders of HAROLD THE DUKE and SLAINTE MHATH respectively, reported that these geldings did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) ROLL OF THE DICE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer NJ Paddock, acting on behalf of Trainer WGC Miller, was advised. (LM) g) RED WILLIAM, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised.
