THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) WORLDLY (G Wright) and RHYDIAN (L Mxothwa) jumped slow, losing one length.
b) AFRICAN PRINCE (JP van der Merwe) and PARATROOPER (G Lerena) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) ALL ABOUT AL was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 37 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer AN Marcus was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer AN Marcus was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the threshold of 38 mmol/L and that consequently ALL ABOUT AL was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 16h21, 25/2 in the betting). ALL ABOUT AL was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis, as per normal TCO2 procedure.
b) Approaching the 300m WORLDLY (G Wright) was steadied briefly when close to the heels of AFRICAN PRINCE (JP van der Merwe). Thereafter, WORLDLY (G Wright) had difficulty securing clear running until the 200m.
c) MONT LOISIR (*B Plaatjies) commenced to hang out in the concluding stages and had to be straightened.
d) Jockey O Noach reported that COUNTER ATTACK made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e) Jockey D Ashby reported that he felt something amiss with SOOTY. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
f) When questioned regarding the improved performance of MONT LOISIR (*B Plaatjies), Assistant Trainer K Snyders told the Stewards that in this gelding's previous race on 12 June 2025 at Kenilworth had been a disappointment and that he had a veterinarian examine the gelding in terms of the requirement of the Stewards in terms of the provisions of Rule 49.7, which was imposed following that last race. He informed the Stewards that the veterinarian had passed this gelding fit and that in his opinion, the short break and having suitable conditions to work this gelding in training, had been the reasons for the improved performance. His explanation was noted and the future performances of MONT LOISIR will be monitored.
g) MONT LOISIR, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer K Snyders, acting on behalf of Trainer PAW Botha, was advised. (SC)
