ELEGANT ROYAL threw her head down as the start was effected and lost one length. MASTER KEYS and MITRA MUSIC were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G van Zyl advised. ELEGANT ROYAL raced wide on the latter part of the bend and into the straight. MITRA MUSIC and CALL ME WINTER brushed near the 300m. In view of the performances of CAUSE AND EFFECT and CHAMPENOIS the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. Apprentice L Ferraris the rider of ELEGANT ROYAL was questioned with regard to his riding of this filly with particular reference to him racing wide on the latter part of the bend and into the straight. Apprentice L Ferraris explained that this filly had a hard mouth and as such tended to race too freely. His instruction was to race handy but due to this filly throwing her head down as the start was effected he had to drop her out in the early stages. As a result she raced too eagerly which forced him to race wider than he intended to avoid the heels of runners in front of him. He further explained that coming into the straight he felt something amiss with this filly and did not persevere with his mount and that she had suffered an epistaxis. Having viewed the patrol video, his explanation was noted. In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning ELEGANT ROYAL and in terms of Rule 93.1, this filly is suspended for a period of 60 days. ANCIENT SPIRIT (AUS) raced without a tongue tie. CALL ME WINTER raced with alumites in front and unshod behind. Vet: CAUSE AND EFFECT and CHAMPENOIS - nothing obvious detected. ELEGANT ROYAL - bilateral epistaxis, 60 day suspension.
