THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FIREALLEY (C Maujean) was restless in the stalls and rushed the front gate, was taken out, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded. b) ZINOVI (L Mxothwa) jumped slow, losing two lengths. c) MR FOX (X Ndlovu) jumped awkwardly inwards. d) ROYAL AUSSIE (M Yeni) and ROYALS (MK Katjedi) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FIREALLEY recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer JVA Strydom was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. (15h30) This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) ZINOVI (L Mxothwa) was hanging in in the latter stages. c) Jockey R Fourie appeared before the Board and was questioned with regard to his riding of MY BEST SHOT. He explained that once passing the 500m, he felt that this gelding had commenced to tire quickly. He persevered with his riding hands and heels as he felt that using his crop on this gelding would have no benefit. He further stated that MY BEST SHOT usually had a quick turn of foot, which had not been the case in today's race and that this gelding had had a long season. His explanation was noted. d) ZINOVI, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
