THE STARTER REPORTED: a) EYJAFJALLAJOKULL (*B Soodoo) was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and withdrawn, causing a delay. b) ROMANCE IN ROME (C Maujean) and SPEED RACER (S Naidoo) were restless in the stalls, were taken out, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded. c) MHLABENI (G Wright) kicked the back gates in the starting stalls. d) ROOMFORMANOEUVRE (*N Nastili) jumped awkwardly outwards and made contact with the left side front gate of the starting stalls. e) CROWNED HORNBILL (X Ndlovu) jumped inwards. f) GIMME'S LADDIE (C Zackey) jumped slow, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (16h04) b) Permission was granted for ROMANCE IN ROME (C Maujean) and ANUSCHKA'S WORLD (M Yeni) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start. c) YAMADORI refused to proceed to the start and was led by Apprentice G Dookhit from the 1000m. Assistant Trainer DG Smith was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future engagements, he may be suspended. d) YAMADORI (*G Dookhit) was hanging in from the 400m and was corrected at the 200m. e) Jockey R Fourie reported that CLIFF TOP coughed post-race. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) Jockeys J Gates and C Maujean reported that SYMBOL OF LOVE and ROMANCE IN ROME respectively did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. g) Jockey X Ndlovu reported that CROWNED HORNBILL made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer WGC Miller was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. h) Jockey L Mxothwa was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on YAMADORI, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer, which resulted in a change of Rider. Jockey L Mxothwa signed an admission of guilt and was fined R3000.00. i) ANUSCHKA'S WORLD, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised.
