THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) SAN QUINTIN (*G Dookhit) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 testing were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (15h08)
b) Permission was granted for DOWNING SEVEN (*N Nastili) and KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (M Yeni) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start.
c) WILLIAM THE FIRST (C Zackey), which over raced in the early stages, was allowed to race prominently ten lengths ahead of the field and compounded at approximately the 150m.
d) HOLOCENE (S Khumalo) shifted outwards away from the crop at approximately the 300m.
e) DOWNING SEVEN (*N Nastili), which was hanging in from the 300m, was corrected and directed outwards at the 50m.
f) FEW DOLLARS MORE (C Little) was hanging in and shifted in away from crop from the 250m.
g) The Stewards reviewed the concluding stages of the race and in particular the actions of Jockey M Yeni where he made hand gestures in the direction of his fellow Riders. After interviewing two of these Riders, Jockey M Yeni was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.2 in that he rode KINGDOM OF HEAVEN in an unprofessional manner by making unnecessary hand gestures towards his fellow Riders in the concluding stages, which could be seen to be demeaning to them and unsportsmanlike. Jockey M Yeni signed an admission of guilt and was fined R5 000,00, of which R2 500.00 is suspended for a period of twelve months.
h) Jockey S Khumalo reported that HOLOCENE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Assistant Trainer A Mtengwana was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables.
i) KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee GW Paddock, acting on behalf of Trainer K Mitchley, was advised. (LM)
