THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Shortly after arriving at the start, Jockey G van Niekerk was unseated from FLYING FINLEY, which bolted the course, was taken in hand, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and withdrawn, causing a slight delay. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey L Mxothwa was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on ROMAN AGENT, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer, which resulted in a change of Rider. Jockey L Mxothwa signed an admission of guilt and was fined R5000.00. Jockey L Mxothwa was advised that should he continue to contravene this Rule, the Stewards will consider placing a weight restriction on him. b) The Stewards questioned Jockey G van Niekerk with regard to the circumstances which led to his being unseated from FLYING FINLEY. The Stewards have adjourned to consider the statements made by Jockey G van Niekerk and to obtain further video evidence of this incident. c) ELUSIVE WINTER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Rix was advised.
