THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HAARLEM (C Little) and PARDON ME (MK Katjedi) jumped slow, losing two lengths. b) SAN QUINTIN (X Ndlovu) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) GARDEN SUN (*N Nastili) recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer JVA Strydom was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. (13h35) This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) BACK FOR MORE (R Fourie) faltered shortly after the start. c) A BIT CHILLY (C Habib) shifted both ways away from the crop from the 200m. d) Jockey C Little reported that HAARLEM did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey R Fourie was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of BACK FOR MORE he misused his crop by striking BACK FOR MORE more than 12 times (13) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey R Fourie signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2 000,00. f) A BIT CHILLY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer DG Smith, acting on behalf of Trainer GD Smith, was advised.
