THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GREEN GARNET (C Murray) reacted and broke open the front gate of the starting stalls when AFRICAN PRINCE (JP van der Merwe) became restless in the stalls. GREEN GARNET (C Murray) was taken out, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and withdrawn, causing a delay. b) AZZURRI (C Little) was restless and kicked in the stalls. c) DIABLO (*S Bungane) jumped slow, losing one length. d) ONE LINER (M Yeni) and PREVALENCE (A Fortune) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start SOOTY (D Ashby) and ONE LINER (M Yeni), which pulled hard and raced tight on the inside of AZZURRI (C Little), made contact on three occasions when ONE LINER (M Yeni) shifted in and then was bumped outwards by SOOTY (D Ashby). b) AZZURRI (C Little) over raced in the early and middle stages. c) The Stewards interviewed Jockeys C Zackey (GIMMIE RULES), S Moodley (BOOGIEFIED (AUS) and Apprentice DD Louw (WHAT A FORTUNE) with regard to an incident which took place in the concluding stages, which resulted in GIMMIE RULES (C Zackey) having to check away from the heels of BOOGIEFIED (AUS) (S Moodley). After considering all the evidence given, the Stewards established that WHAT A FORTUNE (*DD Louw), which was initially carried inwards slightly by SAUDI CAT (ARG) (R Fourie), which was hanging in, shifted in slightly and was immediately straightened, had continued to shift in slightly away from SAUDI CAT (ARG) (R Fourie) and carried BOOGIEFIED (AUS) (S Moodley). inwards, which resulted in GIMMIE RULES (C Zackey), which was attempting a narrow run between the inside running rail and BOOGIEFIED (AUS) (S Moodley), having to be checked. The Stewards concluded this was a racing incident and took no further action. However, Apprentice DD Louw was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. d) In view of the performance of PREVALENCE (A Fortune), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) SAUDI CAT (ARG), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
