THE STARTER REPORTED: a) EYEJAFJALLAJOKULL (C Maujean) was nervous in the stalls. b) MERCANTOUR (R Fourie), GOLDEN LINK (MK Katjedi), GUY GIBSON (L Mxothwa) and THE AFRICA HOUSE (X Ndlovu) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (15h24) b) Jockey C Zackey (USA'S HOPE) crop momentarily became entangled in his reins at the 300m. c) Jockey X Ndlovu reported that THE AFRICA HOUSE changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) In view of the performance of YAMADORI (C Little), which was not preserved with from the 150m, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Assistant Trainer DG Smith was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. Jockey C Little was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 in that he failed to ride YAMADORI out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards. Jockey C Little signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000.00 e) Jockey L Mxothwa was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of GUY GIBSON he misused his crop by striking GUY GIBSON more than 12 times (14) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey L Mxothwa signed an admission of guilt and was fined R4000,00. f) MERCANTOUR, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised. (LM) g) USA'S HOPE, the third-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer DG Smith, acting on behalf of Trainer GD Smith, was advised.
