THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LAGUNA VERDE (*N Nastili), GREEN MANDARIN (C Little), PYROMANIAC (C Maujean) and ROCK OF FUTURA (MK Katjedi) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) GOLD GUNNER recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) Permission was granted for KING'S RANSOM (L Mxothwa) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start. c) ROCK OF FUTURA (MK Katjedi) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led. Trainer JP Nel was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future engagements, he may be suspended. d) GOLD GUNNER (L Mxothwa) over raced in the early and middle stages. e) In view of the performance of WINTER EMERALDS (R Fourie), which over raced in the early and middle stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer AC Greeff was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. f) Leaving the 600m SUN SPECTACULAR (W Agrella) took an awkward stride. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. g) LAGUNA VERDE (*N Nastili) was carried outwards by GREEN MANDARIN (C Little), which shifted out away from the crop at approximately the 350m. h) ROCK OF FUTURA (MK Katjedi) was baulked for a number of strides between PYROMANIAC (C Maujean) and GREEN MANDARIN (C Little), was directed out to obtain clear running at approximately the 300m and thereafter, shifted outwards continually away from the crop. i) GREEN MANDARIN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised.
