The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SACRED LILY (S Hlengwa) jumped awkwardly losing 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (DM) : a) GORGEOUS DUDE (A Mgudlwa) and SLYTHERIN (S Moodley) proved difficult to settle in the early stages. b) GARDENER'S PRIDE (C Habib) hung in from the 250m. c) Apprentice B Marx-Jacobson (CHINABERRY) and Jockey S Hlengwa (SACRED LILY) reported that they felt something amiss with their respective mounts in the running. d) In view of the performance of BOM BOM (R A Venniker) (16.55 lengths, 25/2 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. The Stipendiary Board has exercised the provisions of Rule 49.7, and this gelding is suspended pending a Veterinary Certificate prior to its next racing engagement. e) Jockey S Moodley was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, (Appendix E; Guideline M), in that he as the rider of SLYTHERIN misused his crop by striking this gelding more than twelve times (15) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt and was fined R10 000. f) GLOBAL MOVEMENT (C Zackey), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
