THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) LILIC HEART (S Naidoo) jumped slow, losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) CEDARPEAK recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer Z Oosthuizen was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level.
b) Permission was granted for OH MANDY (MK Katjedi) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start.
c) LILIC HEART (S Naidoo) failed to muster speed and raced detached from the field throughout. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
Trainer DG Smith was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this filly on her return to the stables.
d) Jockey M Yeni's (LACRYMA CHRISTI) crop was briefly entangled in his reins at the 300m. Thereafter, Jockey M Yeni reported that this filly was blowing post-race. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
When questioned with regard to the manner in which he rode LACRYMA CHRISTI, he explained to the Board that it was his intention to place this horse in a handy position. However, Apprentice G Dookhit (CEDARPEAK) set a strong gallop at the head of the field which resulted in LACRYMA CHRISTI galloping too freely and compounding in the straight.
e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding LILIC HEART (S Naidoo), Trainer D Smith will be advised to have this filly re-schooled prior to her next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10.
f) ROYAL MISSY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised. (LM)
g) ROYAL MERMAID, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DG Smith was advised. (LM)
