THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, KATSU (S Khumalo) cast its left front shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced, causing a delay. Thereafter, the tongue tie on KATSU (S Khumalo) had to be refitted. b) Between the 300m and the finish MAJOR MASTER (A Domeyer) was carried out gradually by CHASINGTHERAINBOW (C Murray), which was hanging out, shifted out and was straightened on a number of occasions. c) KATSU (S Khumalo) shifted in away from the crop at the 200m and had to be straightened. d) When questioned regarding his decision to allow MENTE ET MANU to race at the front of the field, Jockey R Fourie told the Stewards that this gelding had jumped well from draw 6 and as there was a lack of pace in the early stages, he had allowed MENTE ET MANU to race forward. However, this gelding had not settled in front and that, in hindsight, would have probably performed better had he been able to get cover. His explanation was noted. e) CHASING THE RAINBOW, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J Crawford was advised.
