EN ROUTE TO THE START, JOCKEY M VAN RENSBURG WAS STRUCK IN THE FACE BY BATTLE OFTHE BULGE, WHICH BECAME RESTLESS. THIS GELDING WAS EXAMINED BY THE COURSE VETERINARY SURGEON AND WAS PASSED FIT TO RACE. JOCKEY M VAN RENSBURG REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION, WHICH PRECLUDED HIM FROM FULFILLING HIS RIDING ENGAGEMENT. A REPLACEMENT RIDER (M YENI) WAS SOUGHT AND DISPATCHED TO THE START. THIS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE.
THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) COMIC ARTIST (S Khumalo) jumped inwards leaving the stalls.
b) FRANKIE FAHRENHEIT (M K Katjedi) was slow losing two lengths.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) As the start was effected, COMIC ARTIST (S Khumalo) jumped awkwardly inwards, making contact with the right-side front gate.
b) FRANKIE FAHRENHEIT (M K Katjedi) was restless in the stalls and as the start was effected, threw its head down, resulting in this gelding losing two lengths.
c) Jockey S Khumalo (COMIC ARTIST) did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. Thereafter, Jockey S Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with this filly in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
d) Jockey J Penny (ERIK'S GIRL) did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. Thereafter, Jockey J Penny reported that he felt something amiss with this filly in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
e) In view of the performance of NEW LIFE (J R Syster), (distance 22,00 lengths, betting 50/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
f) JABARI THIMBA (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
