THE STARTER REPORTED: a) TAKETHEGREENLIGHT (C Little) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Prior to the running of this race Trainer MH Maingard advised the Stewards that while he was confident that TUNGUSKA, which was returning to racing after a serious setback, was fit enough to be competitive, he would be instructing Jockey A Fortune to give this gelding every chance in running. However, he should use his crop sparingly. This information was disseminated via the on-course Presenter. In view of the performance of TUNGUSKA (A Fortune), which came under pressure from the 600m and gradually gave ground to the field in the straight, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) Shortly after the start QUIET PLACE (G van Niekerk) shifted out away from OCEAN SKY (C Zackey) and made contact with FREQUENT TRAVELLER (C Orffer). c) Jockey C Orffer reported that FREQUENT TRAVELLER coughed post-race. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline 3; Appendix E) in that he mis-used his crop by striking IN MOTION in front of the saddle approaching the 100m. Jockey G Lerena signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1 000.00. e) SIGNOR DANTE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J Crawford was advised.
