THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) INNERBLOOM (G Lerena) jumped outwards.
b) ENGLEFIELD GREEN (G Wright) and KATTEKWAADKWADRAAD (L Mxothwa) made contact leaving the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) There was a delay to the Judges releasing the provisional result while they satisfied themselves with regard to the correctness of the minor placings.
b) ENGLEFIELD GREEN (G Wright) pulled hard in the early and middle stages.
c) Between the 350m and the 200m KATTEKWAADKWADRAAD (L Mxothwa) had difficulty securing clear running between SUPREME FATE (A Fortune) and ENGLEFIELD GREEN (G Wright).
d) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that LA LANDONNE, which rolled in and was steadied briefly away from the heels of ENGLEFIELD GREEN (G Wright) approaching the 100m, did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
e) When questioned regarding his riding of BEACH VERSE, Jockey A Domeyer told the Stewards that this filly, which had raced at the back of the field in the early stages from its outside draw, had dropped the bit and shown no interest from the 900m, despite his urgings. Thereafter, on entering the straight, BEACH VERSE had commenced to hang out and only responded to his urgings from the 350m. He further told the Stewards that, in his opinion, this filly would be better suited to racing over more ground in future engagements. The Stewards, having reviewed the patrol film, noted Jockey A Domeyer's explanation and were satisfied that BEACH VERSE had been ridden on her merits. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine BEACH VERSE.
f) SUPREME FATE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised. (TJ)
