THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CHURCHILLIAN (A Domeyer) was re-saddled at the start, causing a delay. b) SPIRIT (R Fourie) jumped slow, losing one length. c) NIGHTRAIN (G Lerena) rushed the front gates. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) The Stewards reviewed the start with regard to NIGHTRAIN (G Lerena) in stall gate 1 and established that this gelding had rushed the front gates, which then opened marginally early. The Stewards were satisfied that NIGHTRAIN had gained no advantage and declared him to be a runner. b) In the concluding stages STEADFAST (JP van der Merwe) was held up for a clear run behind AZZURRI (C Murray). As a consequence, Jockey JP van der Merwe was unable to ride this gelding to the finish. c) Jockey G Lerena reported that NIGHTRAIN made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey A Domeyer reported that CHURCHILLIAN took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) MAURITIUS KESTREL, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AN Marcus was advised.
