THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MISS WILLIAM (G Wright) jumped slow, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ARTISTE (R Fourie) raced with its head up for a number of strides when attempting to get cover in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance of ARTISTE, Jockey R Fourie told the Stewards that he had been unable to get cover in the early stages and, as a consequence, the filly had raced with her head up and had not settled. He further told the Stewards that while he had been momentarily inconvenienced at the 300m when racing tight between SOHOT SOWHAT (G Lerena) and EXCEEDINGLY GLAM (*S Bungane), he was of the opinion that this filly had come to the end of her run at that stage and was hanging out. Jockey R Fourie's explanation was noted. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine ARTISTE. b) TANNERON, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
