THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BUTTERCUP BABY (C Habib) was stubborn to load. b) MR HENLEY (R Venniker) lost one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (DM) : a) Shortly after the start, ESSENTIAL (S Hlengwa) was buffeted between MVELELO (C Zackey) which jumped out and WILD AT WAR (K de Melo) which jumped in. b) Jockey C Zackey reported that he felt something amiss with MVELELO in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) In the concluding stages, WILD AT WAR (K de Melo) was carried in by GOOD TRAVELLER (S Khumalo) which shifted in away from the crop between the 150m and 100m and was immediately corrected. A race review was called into this incident by Jockey K de Melo (WILD AT WAR). After reviewing the patrol films from the various angles, Jockey K de Melo decided to take no further action. d) Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, (Appendix E; Guideline M), in that, as the rider of GOOD TRAVELLER, he misused his crop by striking this gelding more than twelve times (13) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R2000 was imposed. e) GOOD TRAVELLER (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G van Zyl (Jnr) was advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Jockey C Habib (BUTTERCUP BABY) weighed out at 55.4kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) SUPER FAST : Returned post-race having cast the left front shoe. b) MVELELO : Nothing obvious detected. c) BUTTERCUP BABY : Cut into right hind. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: a) None.
