THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GLADATORIAN (S Veale) and JET FORCE (G van Niekerk) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (15h56) b) Shortly after the start GARRIX (S Khumalo) was steadied in anticipation of being awkwardly placed on the inside of SEE IT AGAIN (A Fortune). c) In view of the performance of DAVE THE KING (R Munger), which raced in advance of the field in the early and middle stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Leaving the 1000m SUGAR MOUNTAIN (A Domeyer), which was racing tight on the inside of COSMIC SPEED (G Lerena), was steadied when close to the heels of SAIL THE SEAS (M Yeni). e) Leaving the 200m THE REAL PRINCE (C Zackey), which was improving into a narrow run between SAIL THE SEAS (M Yeni) and a tiring LEGAL COUNSEL (C Little), was bumped on the hindquarters by LEGAL COUNSEL (C Little). f) SEE IT AGAIN (A Fortune) had difficulty securing clear running in the straight and was directed outwards leaving the 100m. g) In the concluding stages GARRIX (S Khumalo) was steadied and directed outwards when awkwardly placed on the outside of EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN (O Murphy), which rolled out. h) In view of the performances of JAN VAN GOYEN (C Murray) and EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN (O Murphy), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these colts. i) THE REAL PRINCE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DM Kannemeyer was advised. (ZM) j) QUESTIONING, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised.
