THE STARTER REPORTED: a) APRIL FOOLS' DAY (R Piechulek) jumped slow, losing one length. b) CANTONA (*S Bungane) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (12h39) b) Approaching the 100m HAZEL GREEN (JP van der Merwe) and CANTONA (*S Bungane) were carried outward by SEVEN NO TRUMP (A Fortune), which was hanging out from the 200m, proved difficult to straighten and took a number of awkward strides at the 100m. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine SEVEN NO TRUMP (A Fortune). A member of the Stipendiary Board called for a race review with regard to this incident and after taking into account the proximity to the winning post and the distance between the horses concerned, took no further action. During this incident WINTER IN AUCKLAND (L Mxothwa), which was following, was steadied briefly and directed inwards. c) In the concluding stages PENNYS CHOICE (*N Yuen) was inconvenienced on the outside of LATE BLOOMER (C Murray), which shifted out. d) Jockey R Fourie reported that BLUE DAME did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) SEVEN NO TRUMP, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer MH Maingard was advised.
